[At approximately the 3 o'clock hour on day 40, there is a loud, odd noise, a bit like a party blower crossed with an explosion. On the wall in the common area you will find the large, irridescent words:]

[And you might be somewhat taken with very obvious changes to the building in the north-east corner of the level 3 common area.

First off, it's low front wall has now been covered with a shining metal counter top, complete with indents and glass covers, rather like any mess hall food line. Beyond that you can see a fully formed, industrial grade kitchen. Metal counters for prep areas, shelving for storage, white ceramic plate, bowls, silverware and glasses. Shelves full of stainless steel pots and pans of every size and need, and drawers full of excellent cooking knives (but having come from Hok, they will instantly go dull if used for any purpose other than cooking). Bakeware can also be found, including sheet pans and bread pans, muffin trays and bunt pans.

Large appliances have been taken care of too. There are at least four large ovens, several gas stovetop burners and a large griddle that has a grill attachment. In the corner there is even a brick oven, perfect for wood fire baking. There are several deep sinks, for cleaning dishes and plenty of space to dry them. An entire shelf is full of bright, durable white towels for the task.

And, if you venture into the kitchen and to the back, you will discover walk in pantry, fridge, and freezer. The pantry has been generously stocked with spices, as well as some basic god given baking supplies: sugar, flour, cocoa, yeast, and so on.

Finally, just outside the kitchen itself, there are several long, mess hall style wooden tables.

Basically, Thusia, you have a fully stocked kitchen, with everything you need to feed the populace, minus the actual food and, of course, chefs.]

Of course I was!

It wasn't all lies, but there was a lot of deception on my part. Kind of have to considering I was an evil psychopath for a while.

...So...then...what's going on?

I sold myself as a knight of the land. Which I wasn't, but I did grow up with the training, technically. Both physical and mental, and had I listened to what I learned, if I was in the land of Light I could have become one. Even at my age. And I got to observe the princess growing up, so I got a good idea on how real leaders work in general.

So how's that going to take care of her being sheriff though?

[Shakes his head.] Yer too focused on one solution and on one aspect. Ya need to look at a bigger picture, Becca.

I'm planning on making sure you'll be able to grow old in a relatively peaceful civilization, natural dangers of the world aside.

Which I can't do if she's what passes for law enforcement around here.

And that's why I had to throw ya out. Yer too focused on a small part. Ya can't do that, not if ya want this to work.

Then what is the plan, Shadow? How are you gonna take her down?

That's not the question.

Like I said, yer looking at small picture. The goal isn't anything to do with where she ends up, it's how stable the structure is. And the way to make the structure stable is to get as many people to support, or at least not oppose it, as much as possible.

The people who want to go home or who are bitter to the gods are going to be the ones that are the biggest risks. They don't want to stay here, they don't want to be invested, they're waiting for the way home or for the other shoe to drop. And guess what faction in Thusia is gonna be full of people like that?

...That's the Sabra people all right. Her apartment especially.

Precisely. And they also make up a significant part of our total population.

So, bitter, paranoid, and desperately want to go home. It's a powder keg waiting to go off. And even if they didn't all like each other, those who go through similar terrible experiences do get some feeling of connection and understanding. So if enough of them seriously go off, it could be one big, horrible chain reaction.

But...if we look at it another way. If we get some of the worst of them and some of the rational of them to agree, and think it's a legitimate system...chances are, it'll have a pacifying affect.
