[At approximately the 3 o'clock hour on day 40, there is a loud, odd noise, a bit like a party blower crossed with an explosion. On the wall in the common area you will find the large, irridescent words:]

[And you might be somewhat taken with very obvious changes to the building in the north-east corner of the level 3 common area.

First off, it's low front wall has now been covered with a shining metal counter top, complete with indents and glass covers, rather like any mess hall food line. Beyond that you can see a fully formed, industrial grade kitchen. Metal counters for prep areas, shelving for storage, white ceramic plate, bowls, silverware and glasses. Shelves full of stainless steel pots and pans of every size and need, and drawers full of excellent cooking knives (but having come from Hok, they will instantly go dull if used for any purpose other than cooking). Bakeware can also be found, including sheet pans and bread pans, muffin trays and bunt pans.

Large appliances have been taken care of too. There are at least four large ovens, several gas stovetop burners and a large griddle that has a grill attachment. In the corner there is even a brick oven, perfect for wood fire baking. There are several deep sinks, for cleaning dishes and plenty of space to dry them. An entire shelf is full of bright, durable white towels for the task.

And, if you venture into the kitchen and to the back, you will discover walk in pantry, fridge, and freezer. The pantry has been generously stocked with spices, as well as some basic god given baking supplies: sugar, flour, cocoa, yeast, and so on.

Finally, just outside the kitchen itself, there are several long, mess hall style wooden tables.

Basically, Thusia, you have a fully stocked kitchen, with everything you need to feed the populace, minus the actual food and, of course, chefs.]

Shadowwww I hate her. I hate her so much. She shouldn't be able to hold office here. Why does she get to be crazy and violent and get forgiven for it right away but all I have to do is have a crazy friend and everyone thinks I'm the devil's child?

I was beaten and broken and the only one of real consequence present was Princess Zelda. And still nothing?

[starting to cry out of sheer frustration]

I don't KNOW, Shadow! She did something...I already knew she did SOMETHING but I don't know! I don't know, I don't get it, I'm not smart enough...

[Sighs.] You remember, what I said before, about things like Dante needing to be in the dark? Like how I was like that?

Look behind ya, at the ground. What do ya see? [Is referring to your shadow.]

[looks down at her shadow]

How often, on average, do you think you ever notice it?

[shrug]

Not real often. Only when it's super sunny and I'm thinking about it.

It really isn't often. To even be glanced at and acknowledged.

Shadow Link isn't a 'name.' It's a title. Or rather...a label. A shortened version. But very literal.

But I tried guessing that you wanted his attention and you said that was wrong.

Because attention is the word. When I was in the World of Light, I got plenty of attention.

[Then grabbing her hand and then pushing up the sleeves to show the scars.] But...we both know there's a lot of different types of attention, don't we? Attention is easy to get.

No, attention is close, but it's also wrong.

[She shudders when the scars come into view, and looks away from them.]

[Letting go of her hand, letting the sleeve fall down.]

I was his shadow in every way. The shadow that followed him, his dark mirror image, and the shadow of his heart. The parts cast in darkness and ignored, all those weaknesses.

I always thought I'd be weak. Until I thought that the only way I could be strong was if I could beat my owner. And then he'd give me what I wanted.

I tried guessing that you wanted to be noticed, but that's wrong too...

To be equals?

...not quite the word I use, but...

To be acknowledged. To be seen...as more than just a shadow. An equal is a good word for it.

No. Not now. [But it's gentle.]

Of course, this is our legendary hero. And I had taken the people he knew all his life away from him. I'd hurt innocents and caused a lot of destruction.

It's only natural to be seen as beneath him. I just wasn't willing to see it at the time.

You became everything he'd hate...

Yes. Only to be expected. My existence ensured that he could keep following the strength in his heart, since I held all his weaknesses.

And that's how my heart always was. As time went on, it became weaker and blacker and whatever light it had was crushed when I was seen as enough of a threat that a part of him decided to play cruelly.

Heh, I really am the darkness. I caused that sort of behavior in the hero I admired more than anything.

That's so sad, Shadow....you didn't deserve that.

No, I didn't. And I hated that I had it anyway. I hated the gods, I hated the World of Light, I hated everything so much....

Except...for two lights. One that was shining brightly and one that was just enough to be a flicker in the night.

Of course, the shining one was my owner. Even when I was angry and bitter at him, I couldn't hate him. I could never bring myself to kill him until I got really mad. Dangerously mad. But all my plans never had them die, not until that part of him played cruelly...and put out that light.

Barely a flicker of anything...I wanted to die when the Dark King revived me. I didn't care about anything, I just wanted to go back to that oblivion and be away from all of it.

I even wondered what I did to the three goddesses that my fate was like this. None of it was fair and if I could do it easily, I would have set fire to the world and just died with it. I could barely muster any sort of anger with the princess, it was mostly frustration.
