[ By the end of Day 17, everyone's hard work and efforts have resulted in three new doors, sealing off the last rooms in the second hallway. Hooray, new rooms! ]

[ Though one of these doors has a label that's a little more worrisome than the others. If you find smiley faces instead of letters worrisome. ]

It's difficult to say whether it's common or not, I've never been very good at it myself. I suppose I would end up at the shrine room looking to get you a lock... But I apologize, I really should leave you something to do.

You will do no such thing. I will earn my own lock, and you will see to your own tasks. At this rate, you will end up neglecting something of importance to see me settled.

I've always found it more fulfilling to help others than help myself, though there's some irony in this case. I've no tasks important enough at the moment that setting them aside will cause an issue.

Though I understand self-sufficiency is important. Perhaps there's a temporary measure that can be used on the door for tonight and you can deal for a lock after you've rested properly.

With a bit of work, perhaps I can fashion a simple barricade from the leftover debris. There is plenty available. At the very least, the noise one makes when forcing an entry will wake me.

[Turning to face you properly now.]

Ah, also, thank you for the futon. Assuming it is yours, I will return it once I have earned my own.

At least the likeliest outcome of someone intruding would just be another arrival looking to claim a space, but that still doesn't sound very restful...

It is a necessity; leisure may come afterwards. Most of my concern stems from any wandering animals somehow finding their way in, so I'm certain even the smallest measure of security will suffice. It should pose no trouble to a person interested in claiming a room.

Well, if you're certain... If you require use of any basic utilities you don't have yet, you're welcome to Apartment E's until you acquire them for yourself.

I'm afraid I was never very good at naming... I made a list when I first had to name myself in Sabra, but ah... They're a bit odd to use in a place where most have their real names...

Surely you agree that these are not normal circumstances. Besides, I believe 'Note' suits you rather well. It is not a bad name.

Ah.. thank you. I've actually had more use out of it here than in Sabra so it's comforting to know it fits...

I don't remember the list exactly but I could make some suggestions from memory...? I know "Pen" and "Tome" were on the list... Likely "Book" also.

It is quite strange to name one's self after an inanimate object, but I digress... Out of those three, which would you prefer? I, of course, have no preference, but I do not wish to take a name that has sentimental value.

Something to do with a "link" then...? Hitch? Hook...? Ah, those seem a bit violent somehow...

Well, they're only names I opted not to use myself back then... I only decided on Note because it seemed... suitable, for someone who had no memories...

Perhaps "Book" for you? Something already filled in... and I suppose.. if one considered it, it has some connection to your faith...

[He starts, a little taken back. They really are the same person, only from different instances in time. Just as Note has said, his pages have been filled and the Good Book governs most of his choices. It's unnerving for someone to know you this well--it's almost intimate.]

While I doubt most would make that connection, it does carry a measure of significance for us. "Book" is more than acceptable. Thank you for your input, Note.

It is understandable... I was fortunate enough to have a nickname for you from the beginning, so I managed to avoid that particular discomfiture. I hope this makes things slightly more, ah, relaxed between us.

Well, one will certainly find no shortage of time here... As for the door, I have little else so it will be sufficient enough. It is only one night and, as you know, I am easy to rouse when things go awry. You needn't worry.
