Who: Everyone
When: Day 40, later-morning
Where: Common Area
What: Long awaited meeting...

[cleared up from the events of last night and whatever earlier moments of the day, the Common Area's now sporting some tables pushed against a wall with food and drink spread out for those who would want something to munch on. opposite of this would be the masked ninja that advertised said meeting, standing in front of the windows, posture in its usual slump and seemingly lazy eye distracted by the views outside. somewhere nearby will also be that blonde people may remember as advertising the police force, pointedly standing with arms crossed, making a point to keep a CLOSE EYE on the people who attend the meeting]

There are people with special abilities, though~

What an unreliable method!

[s-sighs]

Y-yes, that is what I was implying. Mind manipulation, disguises, hell, even just getting someone from behind. There needs to be evidence to back up testimony.

It hasn't been a problem yet. And if it is, I'm not going to be relying on some guy who thought signing up with a sociopathic torturer was a good plan. I'll do my own fucking detective work.

What? People have a right to know shit like that. If they want to know I signed up with a crazy goddess too, fine. I'm not asking anyone to rely on me that doesn't already.

I don't think anyone needs to be named or trusted for anything. I'm just saying I don't think that we need to plot out the penalties before we even know the rules.

Fair enough, though this one is only applying to outright murder--if "Don't Kill People" isn't a common sense rule, I don't know what is. Self defense, bouts of rage, and other such actions are a bit touchier.

Yeah. I don't think that's something that should have a hard and fast rule attached. There're too many exceptions.

I don't think it matters which we come up with first. We can plan out both at the same time.

Obviously. Everything's going to be summarized at the end, isn't it? We can spot any holes left then.

[slight twitch]

Well good, as I'm not a detective. The overall point here is just to be 100% sure who the murderer is, before inflicting such a severe punishment, if we choose to go that route. Honestly, I'm not sure why we haven't. The system is filled with flaws back home, but it's still more efficient than "let crazy people run around doing as they please."

As Link and others mentioned though, having their acquaintances agree to that is the real problem.

Then use your accessible gods to deduce your murderer, take your justice of them and feed the body to the dragons.

Once or twice will stay the killing for sport of it, weed out the rabid ones, and make the lay man hesitate in his jealous hand.

No. I'm not relying on the gods to tell us who is or isn't guilty. It's bad enough if we have to rely on them to provide us with the tools for punishment, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let them act as any part of the decisions in justice here.

So you'd trust them to make a man a slave under their control, but not to tell the truth of an issue? [He snorts.]

All I'm arguing is that the soft approach will not end a damn thing. Make an example, merciless and strong, and make it permanent, or accept that there is no value to your justice.

I didn't say I wanted them slaves to the control of a god. I said we could get tools from them to use in our punishment. Shock collars that can be set off by someone when they fuck up. Maybe give it a command word that people can use to trigger it. Shit like that.

I don't mind a hard approach. I dealt with a guy who killed one of mine like that recently. Couldn't make it stick, but . . . [shrug] The point got made. THe problem is other people here are fucking soft. There's no way the majority will go for doing things brutally.

Ah. Y-yes, that is a method, and takes care of the remains. It would certainly set a much needed example.
