It's derived from hearthfire keeper. But the title is used by any priest or official within the Church of the Pure Light.

Ah, a Church official! "Adjudicator" is a rank in our Church too. Are your gods anything like the ones here? My gods bear almost no relation to the ones that apparantly reside on this world...

They're... different. I don't recognize the names, certainly, and some of them are a bit... well, I'm watching them to be sure they aren't creatures of Shadow.

They're more interested in direct interaction, though it may merely be that when one only has to care for a hamlet's worth of people, it's easier to do so by directly interacting with everyone. Caring for a whole world may be better to do from a distance.

What do you mean "a hamlet's worth of people"? Is there nothing outside this room?

Two corridors full of rooms with simple dwellings. After that, the rest of the building is full of plants and animals. And outside, if you can believe it, is worse: it's full of trees that are hundreds of feet tall and larger versions of everything.

I've been told that every person native to this place is dead, and the people the gods have been bringing in are the only people here.

So as far as we know (and we could be wrong) we're the only civilization on the world? Are we supposed to be planting the seeds for an entire people here, or just tending the garden? Does anyone know?

I'd assume the former, but that is an assumption.

That seems an odd way to begin a culture... but then some of the more backward nations on my world have stranger ideas about how we came to be, so I suppose anything is possible.

What are you planning to do here? Do people sleep, and where do we live?

[moonineclipse]

I... haven't decided yet. I'm still getting used to the idea that I'll never see my home country again.

As for living space, a couple dozen rooms have been cleared in this building. I gather most are sleeping three to a room, wherever there is space.

[makes a distasteful face]

Three to a room. [sighs]

Oh, I guess a lot of people here have friends and family, don't they? I didn't think of that.

I haven't shared a room since I was a novice. Though the last time I took a sea voyage, I might have preferred it to being in a closet large enough for my hammock and not much else.

And most people had someone I imagine.

Friends. Colleagues. But I never married.

[sethis]

Nor I. If you will excuse me, I am going to see if I can speak with one or more of these gods.
