(no subject)

Who: Albinia and YOU
When: Day 64, noonish
Where: Shrine Area
What: A story.

[As promised, Albinia is sitting in the shrine area. The temperature might be a bit cooler there, but that's more for the snakes' discomfort than any of you.]

[And she's just calmly waiting for people to gather.]

((OOC: You can handwave your character having been here to hear the story, even if you can't really post here yourself.))

My apologies, my frosty muffincakes, though I do enjoy you deeply and dearly, you are probably going to not like these.

As I am understanding things, you and your more elemental kin had a nasty tiff that ended in mutually assured destruction when your eldest natural god wiped off all, oh, worship generating beings from the face of your planet without a trace. Which is, as I believe we are both aware of, the equivalent of a rather zealous and effective bout of murder-suicide.

You don't know why. And given you couldn't assure the survival of your charges at your height, there's even less of a chance of you preserving us now should he try again.

The only thing, from this limited standpoint I can gather is this: He struck when you both were weakened, and attempted to kill everyone, you included.

And you say your enemies, though they have not gathered people, now covet us as a source of cheap and easy power, which honestly now, fear based authority is. You will fight over us. You will fight us.

Exactly what kind of truces HAVE you tried? I do realize we're a rather tasty treat, and terror is far easier to engender than love. But the fact that a great enemy exists should be uniting...

The other is... I've noticed we seem to be limited in our natural abilities here. This makes very little sense, given the scope and scale of the task in front of us.

I've just heard a very similar story. Oh, it's just right there on the tip of my tongue. Something of a very powerful cautionary tale of gods existing for no purpose than to exist, mired in an impossible hope of restoring what they couldn't save.

...

What do you plan to do? Why are you continuing to live, dear?

Your people are gone. Are we to become yours? Or when you have regrown enough do you plan on restoring those you lost?
over_the_fop: (Bitch no those colors don't "go")

I have. And there are others of you I would offer myself to as well. I've given you faith and power, appeased your natures, without asking nearly anything.

But you haven't answered my question.

Why is it imperative to you, to live?

[He waits, expression strangely blank at that first reason.]
over_the_fop: (That's new)

[He looks down, his face is pale and smile weak.]

Thank you. That's all I have to ask.
over_the_fop: (There is where the plan falls out)

[It's after a little while, talking with the unsettling young girl who appeared that... he seems to calm down, and seeks out Albinia again.]

Would it be too much of an imposition to speak with you later? In a far less adversarial environment, at the very least.

[He's been silent, but he interjects when she gets to this part]

So your planet's lifestream still exists, unhindered. I thought so.

I don't claim to know the mysteries behind how life begins. But if your people can be reborn and begin anew, if the possibility is there-- if the lifestream exists independent of the power held by you and yours, why did you need to steal us from our own afterlives? Why couldn't the process simply repeat itself?

Our souls don't belong to this world. And if what you're saying is true, this planet's lifestream is where they'll return, when we die. I want no part of it.

... Then you should die. Die and rejoin the cycle too, as you're meant to.

Selfishly attempting to prolong your own life, when your time has already run out... It never works. All that does is hurt others.

Whether they'd like to be or not is irrelevant. They've already died.

Everyone dies.

Selfish cowards like you just hurt people by trying to prevent it for yourselves.
