or maybe you just are nosy or maybe you are pinged by swearing. which has happened with frequency about every fifteen minutes, and with vitriol.

but there's some girl sitting in an apartment up here. There's a pile of rocks next to her and a crazy magic circle on the ground in front of her with a rock shaped like a lopsided bowl in the middle. A lopsided bowl with a giant crack down the middle :T

There's also a notebook with some stuff written in it off to the side as well as some food on a plate ... study munchies '-' ]

It's one of the things I'm beginning to appreciate about this place; the ability to compare different systems and see what falls out, so to speak.

That too...we were thinking of trying ice, possibly. It's at least crystalline and the elements are somewhat compatible, so it should make an acceptable temporary matrix if it can hold the Essence we're using in the first place...

That...we've nothing like that at all, except for the transformative properties of the Wyld, and my nature makes that completely antithetical...that's really amazing! How far can you transform matter from its nature?

As far as its base elements will carry it. It's still the same object in essence, but with its components rearranged.

In this case, I simply restructured the components in the rock to match those typically found in a gemstone.

Quite different, and mostly necromantic, to be honest. The Essence of the Underworld, and its elements and associations, is what comes most naturally to me. Though I'm pleased to find that I have more than enough grasp of general thaumaturgy to be of assistance here.

Necromancy... is raising the dead, isn't it?

That's a bit of an oversimplification; it would be more accurate to say that it's structured Essence use taking advantage of the convergence of traits and aspects defining the realm of the dead. Animation is a part of it, certainly, but not by any means the whole; depending on one's specialization, one might deal with memory, stasis, ghosts, even travel or communication, particularly via mirrors.

[I wonder if that includes Heroic Spirits...]

My world dabbles in things somewhat similar, but... it sounds like yours has developed an entire art around it that we've only begun to understand.

It's a bit obscure, but by nature I'm suited to it.

It's a bit of a long story, though I can tell it if you like. Thaumaturges draw Essence from ritual or discipline, but the short form is, the gods once forged weapons of a kind to overthrow their creators, and the nature of those weapons was to empower the human soul.

We did agree that fresh perspective is an opportunity we shouldn't waste. I would love to hear your tale, Mr... ah?
