Who: rinnn and you
When: Day 46, late afternoon
Where: FOURTH FLOOR, IN SOME EMPTY APARTMENT
What: lolol more magical experiments

[ maybe you get pinged by magic

or maybe you just are nosy or maybe you are pinged by swearing. which has happened with frequency about every fifteen minutes, and with vitriol.

but there's some girl sitting in an apartment up here. There's a pile of rocks next to her and a crazy magic circle on the ground in front of her with a rock shaped like a lopsided bowl in the middle. A lopsided bowl with a giant crack down the middle :T

There's also a notebook with some stuff written in it off to the side as well as some food on a plate ... study munchies '-' ]

*that is an excellent question*

It's a bit obscure, but by nature I'm suited to it.
homoenculus: (Can you forgive me for trying again)

Your 'nature'... your affiliation as a magus? Or something else?

My power derives from the creators of the realm of the dead, so if that's what you mean by affiliation...

So then, the users of your world... they did not all derive their powers from the same place?

*shakes his head*

It's a bit of a long story, though I can tell it if you like. Thaumaturges draw Essence from ritual or discipline, but the short form is, the gods once forged weapons of a kind to overthrow their creators, and the nature of those weapons was to empower the human soul.

We did agree that fresh perspective is an opportunity we shouldn't waste. I would love to hear your tale, Mr... ah?

You can call me Wisdom, and yourself?
homoenculus: (Chased all my dreams)

[personal profile] homoenculus 2012-05-09 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
My, what an apt name. It's a pleasure to meet you, Wisdom.

My name is Irisviel.

It's a title, technically, and the pleasure is certainly mutual. Shall we sit down?

Mm, let's.

[Let's find an area that doesn't have magic circles drawn all over it and sit]

*sitting down in an appropriate area, crosslegged*

Before there was Creation, there was nothing but chaos; the Wyld in all its infinite madness. Beings arose from it and fell back into it, until there were some who were mighty enough to continue existing beyond a fleeting moment; the Primordials. They bent the principles of existence to their will to forge Creation, a stable world within the Wyld, so that they could rest and take their leisure.

So that they might not spend their time maintaining Creation, they crafted the gods to do so for them, and the mortal races for their amusement. But eventually, the gods grew weary of this state of affairs. Some say they coveted the leisures of their masters, and some say they felt sympathy for the mortal beings of the world. But whichever the case, they could not act against the Primordials themselves, by their own natures as servants. So they developed weapons, of a sort, that would bind to human souls and empower them; they knew that, given a chance, humans would fight against the Primordials, who were frankly not very pleasant overlords.

I have never before heard of beings higher than gods...

I'm beginning to think most worlds have no equivalent, to be honest.

At any rate, the Exalted among humans rebelled against the Primordials and, after a very great war, were victorious. Some of them surrendered, and they imprisoned within the world-body of their king; some were slain, and as they were too powerful to enter the cycle of reincarnation, the Underworld was formed around their dead and dreaming souls.

In a way...ah, it's more that they had too much spiritual "weight" to reincarnate, so the impact of their deaths created a place for them to...well, not rest. They are dying eternally and yet cannot die completely. "Reside", perhaps.

At any rate, these beings still had some capacity to affect the world through their nightmares, and were able to claim some of the same soul-weapons used to slay them and turn them to their own purposes. The originals were still free, of course, still binding to human souls and granting them Exaltation. Mortal practitioners of thaumaturgy use ritual, bargains with gods and their own discipline to change Creation in small ways, but the greatest sorcerers and necromancers, such as myself, are Exalted. And that is a very long-winded answer to your question, I believe.
