[mistake, offered a chance to fix said mistake by gods; well that just sounds familiar.]

What...kind of a mistake?

Mm. The larger part of it was to save hundreds of thousands of people, but with the wish I was able to fix what Al and I did... and what Izumi, and Roy did as well.

We all tried to bring someone back.

*...this is going to ping you isn't it?*

[oh boy does it ping him

he just freezes, as if struck by something, and his breath hitches. in a moment his gaze finds Ed, and he looks...shocked, and saddened. he had only met Roy once, but he remembers him. they're from the same place? And...Mrs. Izumi...they all tried...?]

T-to bring...f-from the dead?

*oh no why do you look like that I didn't want to make you so much sadder :( worrying now, but unsure just quite what to do to fix this... all he can do is answer*

Mm. Our mother, her child, and his ally.

[he's covering his face with his hand now.]

W-what happened?

[he sounds as if he's dreading the answer, but wants to know all the same. what kind of a price did you all pay? :(]

*if Wander is looking at all, he'll see Ed clutching his right shoulder as he answers*

...Bringing someone back wasn't possible. We all knew it before we started... but Izumi, Al and I were in grief, and Roy was forced... it took something from each of us. I... I'm sure you've noticed Izumi's condition, and that there's something not quite right about Alphonse. In my time, before I fixed everything, I had to use prosthetics for my arm and leg. I regained my limbs, but I still have the scars.

[noticing that and wincing when he mentions regaining his limbs. Mrs. Izumi...her sickness -- that's what it is about? What of Alphonse? He seems...normal. He's always wearing armor but that's the only odd thing about him.]

[speaking softly] T-there is always a price.

[and it saddens Wander that they didn't manage to succeed. he thought the impossible was always possible if one wanted it enough. what happened? why couldn't they succeed? they paid the price, why couldn't they get what they wanted?]

I am so sorry, Edward...

It was a deep price, that all of us paid. Roy... may have gotten off easiest. He lost his eyes, but would have otherwise lived. You've seen how ill Izumi is, and without what I did for Al, or what he and Granny did for me, both of us would have died there as well.

...But it was a long time ago. And I was able to set it all right, in my own timeline.

[c-can Wander hug you now, grandpa? because that is what he's going to try and do]

*well of course, and Ed will hug back*

Y-you managed to set it right.

[cling, and a looong pause]

...I have not figured out h-how to do that yet.

There's always a way. It took me four years to fix everything, and the interference of a few gods... I'm sure there's a way for you, too.

Four years...

[s-sniffling]

Do you really think so?

I cannot do much to make up for it from here...

[he keeps holding on to that hope but sometimes...]

T-thank you. I just...I really want to make things right. But...I do not regret what I did. [which kind of makes him feel like crap.]

I know that's terrible, but. I wanted to bring her back.

...Who was she?

Mono? She was...everything to me.

[he's getting used to talking about her without bawling like a baby. there is more fondness in his words now.]

She was all I had left.

You loved her.

Can you tell me about her?

Very much.

[there's a pause]

Mono was -- is perfect. I think you would have liked her. She carries herself so gracefully. Like a princess. She is the kindest, most caring person I have ever known.

[s-smiling slightly]

She liked to sew. She made my poncho, even. She knew I wanted to become an apprentice at the local temple -- to make up for my...to, prove to the gods I was not an ill omen. She told me if I wore their uniform, they would see my dedication. So she made it for me, and she was right. They gave me a chance because of her.

She was supportive that way. I would not be anything without her.

She sounds like a wonderful person. And I'm glad you have something she made for you, to keep you connected to her. I'm sure you'll see each other again.

I have to! Being without her is like having a piece of myself missing. I can never be whole without her.

[just...his very dramatic way of saying he misses her.]
