[At approximately the 3 o'clock hour on day 40, there is a loud, odd noise, a bit like a party blower crossed with an explosion. On the wall in the common area you will find the large, irridescent words:]

[And you might be somewhat taken with very obvious changes to the building in the north-east corner of the level 3 common area.

First off, it's low front wall has now been covered with a shining metal counter top, complete with indents and glass covers, rather like any mess hall food line. Beyond that you can see a fully formed, industrial grade kitchen. Metal counters for prep areas, shelving for storage, white ceramic plate, bowls, silverware and glasses. Shelves full of stainless steel pots and pans of every size and need, and drawers full of excellent cooking knives (but having come from Hok, they will instantly go dull if used for any purpose other than cooking). Bakeware can also be found, including sheet pans and bread pans, muffin trays and bunt pans.

Large appliances have been taken care of too. There are at least four large ovens, several gas stovetop burners and a large griddle that has a grill attachment. In the corner there is even a brick oven, perfect for wood fire baking. There are several deep sinks, for cleaning dishes and plenty of space to dry them. An entire shelf is full of bright, durable white towels for the task.

And, if you venture into the kitchen and to the back, you will discover walk in pantry, fridge, and freezer. The pantry has been generously stocked with spices, as well as some basic god given baking supplies: sugar, flour, cocoa, yeast, and so on.

Finally, just outside the kitchen itself, there are several long, mess hall style wooden tables.

Basically, Thusia, you have a fully stocked kitchen, with everything you need to feed the populace, minus the actual food and, of course, chefs.]

Ahahaha...well how can you argue with that? I kind of like to eat regularly too.

If I didn't think I would be killed the moment I set foot in the water I'd be more confident about fishing. I'm not too bad at it barehanded...

I've heard...which is why I think I'll do better on land...my Flame spell doesn't work so great under water.

Amazing! You must be pretty tough then, right?

Well I can cast spells...but I don't call myself a mage since I'm more physical. Funny thing is that I can't seem to access all of my spells.

Pretty tough. It's one way to put it.

And apparently whatever brought us back to life limited some of our powers. I can manage all of my own spells, but I don't nearly have the same reserves that I should -- weak spells aren't much of a problem, but casting a large spell would knock me down for the rest of the day.

Hmmm...[now she's sizing you up...what can she say she likes to test her skills against others]

They really drained me...I still have my strength and my other physical attributes, but I can only use two of my original spells...Flame and Healing. I guess they didn't want me to have too much of an advantage, whoever brought us back.

Well ain't that always the size of it, gods tend to speak conveniently when it serves their purpose.

[nods] The only thing backing them up is that we're a lot slower cleaning up with limited powers. On the other hand, we're more dependent on the gods.

Hoho! Well the egg is on their face, I could do a lot more damage at full capacity.

Dependency is a good way to keep people loyal and in line.

I don't think they can buy some of our loyalty, no matter what coin they use.

Hmm...well I guess...compliance would be better...at least for anyone who would want to be in their favor, but what does happen if you cross a god?

This lot? I don't know. Given we'd all die of starvation without things like clearing the food, smart people don't cross them.

Maybe that's a form of loyalty, but one enforced by pragmatism.

I don't have any good experiences dealing with gods so maybe I'm not being too fair...but they do have a lot of control.

They do. And neither have I, for that matter.

But they did give us a kitchen, so I guess that's a plus. [and this is punctuated by her stomach growling]

[Have a hearty laugh on her] That seems to be my default most days, I'm always burning more fuel than I put in.

Well, someone will probably try out the kitchen sooner or later. A few people around here feed anyone who can't cook for themselves, especially if you bring them things you've hunted or gathered.

Hm, well I'm not a shabby cook, I'm not domesticated or anything...but I can live on my cooking...and I'd rather do as much as I can for myself so I'm not seen as weak.

[nods] I cook well enough to feed myself... mostly camp fare, though. But a few of my roommates are much better than I am.

Hm...I wouldn't know how well the people I have met can cook, though I have been told I should find roomies instead of just camping out.
