The gods here mute her powers. She says it's possible for her to come up with another spell, but there's risk involved.

Whatever it takes- within reason. If she tried to bring you back, failed, and died in the process... and now she's not at full power? It may not work at all, or something even worse could result.

How much reason can we afford? It could be that any method available to us for getting back is dangerous.

It's not that I'm not willing to take risks. But what if attempting this magic could have consequences for more than just us? I'm not willing to risk someone else's life to save my own.

Why would I?

The gods of Sabra La Tau tried to defy death, to the point of resorting to murder. They used the people they drew in to keep themselves alive, but ultimately there was no stopping it. Their effort was in vain. While neither of us has any wish to resort to those kinds of methods,I can't help but think of how that futility could parallel our own situation.

And the organization who poisoned me and murdered your father- you've been trying all this time to keep them from obtaining immortality. But here we are, trying to extend our own lives past death.

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

[it's okay, he's been brooding over this for. a long while now. which he can continue to do until you have one.]

We're not like them. We're not trying to avoid a fate we should've fallen to hundreds of years ago. And we're not trying to find the secret behind immortality so we never die again.

We're trying to go home to finish what we started because we were both ripped from it too early. That doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth at all. There are people who were counting on us, people who need us, Kudo, and I'll be damned if I just give up on them because of something as stupid as fate.

I make my own fate, anyway. Just because I died doesn't mean I plan on staying dead when I have every reason to fight this.

[not the reaction he was expecting- but once he gets over his surprise, he smirks.]

Hah... maybe that's what it is. It's hard not to get caught up in 'fate' when you're faced with yourself from another reality. But that's not what I should be focusing on at all.

[finally looking a bit less like he has the world on his shoulders]

You're right. They're still counting on us.

[relaxing so much at that response, running a hand through his hair]

Geez, don't say stupid things like that.

Everyone else I've spoken to is so against the possibility of going back, somehow. Even someone like me can be disheartened under these circumstances.
