Well, every so often, an emperor of Cygnus would make a move of conquest. If his majesty enjoys a fruitless struggle, then he probably would have liked those stories.

What was so fruitless about it? Were they ineffective rulers?

Haven't I told you? In Lacerta the is no difference between the wild, the divine and humanity. Lines like that, they're just ridiculous! A human regent, even a Witch-King or Holy Empress, if they are a ruler of men, there was no way to conquer a place like that. There was simply no place for the order that a King would impose.


The first time one tried, they say, his entire army defected for love of Lacertan women.


On the next, the entire army defected for love of Lacertan herb.


And on the third try the land was less hospitable and the forest swallowed them whole.

As a people, I can't really say that we exceed at struggling, and certainly not against fate. In fact, as a matter of basic principal, most stayed as willfully ignorant of Kolotha-Weaver's intentions as possible, least they find her plans displeasing.

You can't imagine, thread bound so tightly. There was no give to be had at all. Not enough to twitch a finger, let alone struggle in earnest. Really, I'm absolutely certain you would have found it tedious.
