No idea, but worrying about whether or not he's a fake based on whether or not you'll lose a fight seems a strange way to go about it. What about your memories?

. . . what about my memories . . .?

Well, he's your guardian, isn't he? So an important fellow. But he's younger so what does he remember of you?

[ . . . blink. ]

You can't really consider Kirei a 'normal' person so even questions like that. . . I knew him for a while before he became my guardian too. He was my father's student.

So since he isn't 'normal' your shared memories are meaningless?

Not exactly . . .

[ shakes her head ]

I'm not sure I was relevant in his memory or not.

And for you?

Of course he was.

So my question is the same. An important person to you who is not the same as the one in your memories, even if his personality is unchanged. But that's fine by you?

Maybe he's not terribly important.

It could be. Are you just curious about duplicates?

In this case I'm curious about a girl who so easily tosses aside the importance of her own memories. Considering the way his majesty harps on about my own lack of interest in my worth, it's a surprising trait in a companion of his.

Setting something aside for the moment isn't the same as tossing it aside. I don't think he'd consider me a companion. I certainly don't consider him one.

His majesty or your not-fake?

Both, probably.

Don't you think so? Two people from your pasts, neither of enough significance that their memories of you effect you. Neither important enough to even be companions. Hm, maybe he rubbed off on you that way too.

[ narrows her eyes for a moment ]

Two isn't that many in the larger picture. Aren't there people from your past that could show up here and be inconsequential?

Of course. But not people I would call a guardian. Not people I knew all that well. It isn't that hard to make friends, honestly.

Guardians can be appointed by other people and aren't often made by choice.

You don't seem small minded enough to actually buy that. There's always a choice.
