[Wander reaches to put a hand on his shoulder, but stops himself. There are really no words. He can't even bring himself to say "it will get better", because he honestly doesn't believe that.

Well, he offers a hand on the shoulder after all, totally understanding if he wants to smack his it away.]

[He would have. Maybe he should have. But instead, he's calm as he gently brushes it aside. After all, he isn't expecting any sympathy. He isn't deserving of any.]

I think I'll go pay them a visit after all.

In fairness to myself, I have no idea what a "gun" is.

[And he is indeed looking at it with fascination. He thought maybe he had just never seen one -- he never really left the village after all, but seeing as how his father was a blacksmith making all sorts of weapons, he doubted that was the case.]

How does this work? You pointed it at me -- so I assume it is a ranged weapon, yes?

That's right. Go ahead and give it a feel for yourself.

[He moves it a little closer to him.]

[Well, he stares at it for a moment more, before tentatively reaching out to touch it along the sides. But that's it, because the last time he went near a crossbow for the first time ended in disaster -- imagine a gun.]

If it is ranged, what does it fire?

[He happens to have his case of magazines on him as well, so he pulls one out from it and tosses it your way]

[Wander catches the case, turning it over and studying it.]

T-That is amazing. And a lot more compact than a bow.

[He briefly wonders how effective a gun would be against a colossus before handing it back to him.]

Um, if you had...say, fired at me. What would have happened? [He is very much interested in the mechanics of guns now.]

[He takes it back and mimics actually firing it at him before lowering it again.]
