Basically, after years of meditation and visualization techniques, we are taught the incantations and hand movements necessary to rearrange seirei into new patterns, thus provoking specific natural phenomena. Seirei are... spirits, although whether they are really sentient beings or not is a matter of debate among scholars. Regardless, they are the energy flow embedded in the world, visible to anyone who is trained to see them.

Ah, I'm afraid our researchers have not gone that far.

We call it the Force. It is the energy that penetrates and flows through all things, binding everything together.

Did you learn to work with it as well?

As far back as I can remember, and under several masters.

Perhaps we can learn from each other. I have not been a student in a long while, but I believe there is still much to explore.

My friend...Ryner, was never taught to use magic. He was born with the capacity of grasping the nature of spells with a single glance. While nations spend years developing their own secret techniques as weapons, he can copy, change, perfect and even create his own spells. In seconds.

Remarkable. However, I doubt that I will be able to learn much.

And why is that?

Our approaches may be incompatible. It is a problem I have encountered before.

Is there anything I should know?

There came a point at which the Jedi Council felt I needed to be retrained. I value learning, but enough was enough. There was nothing more to learn, so I refused.

Did you learn what was needed regardless?

I left the Jedi. I found clarity and power in the Force. I faced armies of Mandalorians and Sith.

I am no longer a student.

It seems to me that one is always a student.

There is a distinction between lifelong learning and being a student.
