nometal_alchemist: Old Ed looking thoughtful (An excellent idea)

*clearly thinking all the way back to see if he can figure it out*

Maybe this place does something strange to time. Or... time was messed up at the end, there, that could have affected all of our personal timelines, too... you still have the scars on your back, right? And you remember the caves changing and King's prom?
pyxising: (I just saw Haley's comet.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[reaches back like he's going to touch them]

Yeah - yeah, I remember.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed looking thoughtful or slightly sad (Better left unsaid)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
But in your memories, no one made it out...

If it was the changes in the flow of time, it would make sense. That somehow more than one outcome of the fight could take place... it's strange, but so was nearly everything else about that place.
pyxising: (With all the things we said.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
. . . so . . . in some other timeline - your timeline - everyone lived? Is that what it is? Fucking . . . what's the word, diverging timelines?
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed looking sadly wistful (Lost loves)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
*nodding, slowly*

Everyone lived. Everyone got out of the Old Man, left the Foreman and the other Judges, and every last one was transported away, including two of the Judges themselves.

That's the only way any of this could possibly make sense.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed in profile, looking slightly sad (The roads we traveled)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
It might not be much comfort, but at least one version of you still had a chance at a normal life.
pyxising: (I think everything's gonna be alright.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
. . . hah. Yeah, good to know I didn't fail somewhere.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed smiling or looking slightly perplexed (Just an old man)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Pyxis was actually a big part of what got us that victory, you know. You and the rest of your team--you didn't fail.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed looking thoughtful or slightly sad (Better left unsaid)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
I am sorry you weren't the one to actually make it out.
pyxising: (Some things I'll never know.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
. . . it doesn't matter, I've - this is a second chance, even if it ain't what I wanted.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed looking thoughtful (An excellent idea)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't have been my first choice of a second chance, either. What's life like, here?
pyxising: (Nothing more to say.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
[won't say he'd rather be dead 8D;;]

Active . . . we gotta clear out all the plants and shit.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed looking sadly wistful (Lost loves)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
*I'll just jiii you in the action tag world, then, because he doesn't know any better*

I'd assumed there had to be some sort of challenge to this place. I'll guess that it's nothing like common gardening, either.
pyxising: (You never met a motherfucker like me.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
The plants like to bite back. So do the dragon things, and the other shit out there . . .
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed smiling or looking slightly perplexed (Just an old man)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
*sighs*

Doesn't seem like the kind of place for an old man like me. I guess I'll find my way through it like I've always done.
pyxising: (You're impossible.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, uh . . . you might wanna stay out of trouble . . .

[wait. Fifty years + = ???]

Wait a fucking second, you were sixteen in Sabra?! YOU WERE SO SMALL.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed smiling broadly (So nice to see you)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
*actually laughs at this, he had a lot of time to get over his height complexes*

Seventeen, but only barely. There was a lot wearing on my body back then, that my wish took care of. I didn't even have to specifically wish myself taller, it just happened as a result of the rest of it.
pyxising: (Nothing more to say.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
You were older than me . . . I could've sworn you were like, twelve.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed smiling or looking slightly perplexed (Just an old man)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Was I really? How old were--are--you?

The automail was heavy enough to weight my body down and keep it from getting taller. And my life force was supporting my brother, too, so I didn't have as much to work against it. Without those two things affecting me, it didn't take long at all to reach a normal height.
pyxising: (Man he never had a chance.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
[has to. think about that for a moment] Sixteen . . . ?

Makes sense . . . your brother?
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed smiling gently (Thank you)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Not older by a lot, then.

My brother and I, when we were young, we... we made a big mistake. As part of it, his body and soul were separated, and his body pulled into a sort of limbo. I kept him alive by binding his soul to the world, but there was nothing to eat in the place where his body was trapped. Somehow, in the whole process of what we did, our souls became tangled up with each other, though, so his body was able to take sustenance from mine.
pyxising: (It's the new kind of lingo.)

[personal profile] pyxising 2012-02-02 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
[shrugs a shoulder] Ain't like age really mattered in the first place.

. . . is he okay now? Your brother.
nometal_alchemist: Old Ed smiling softly (Everything's okay)

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-02-02 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Not there, at least. For a bunch of kids, we did all right in the end.

He's all right. My wish brought his body back, and he's had the full life he almost didn't get a chance to live, too. He's even got grandkids now, everything worked out well.
