Pool's Open

Where: 4th floor, east side—the abandoned swimming pool
What: The marvelous marvels of technology

[With the solar panels fully up and running, and the building's functions picking up (looks guys we have elevators!! don't get stuck) there's finally enough power flowing through the walls to siphon just a little off for a side project.

Those on the fourth floor might hear the definite put put put put vrrroooOOOOM of a motor starting up.

More surprising, though comparatively softer, is the hisssssss of moving water, the splash of it hitting dry, cleaned concrete. The smell of salted water, ever so faint, fills the empty pool room.]


Heeeeh . . . there really is enough pressure to get it all the way from outside.

I wonder what they'll think . . .

[The first thought is WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT NOISE.

The second is why does it sound like water.

The third is that he will not, under any circumstances, go investigate.

The time between the third thought and the fourth thought (some merpire equivalent of "godammit") really only lasts about two and a half minutes.

Which is a really long way of saying it isn't long before a merpire is standing in the doorway, staring blankly.]

Have you ever noticed how this long, wide, increasingly deep rectangular depression in the floor would make for a very capable water basin?

Because it sure does look like it's been scrubbed clean and is being filled with lake water.

Kururu is even down near the growing depths, feet bare and pants rolled up, sprinkling something into the water.

[Someone definitely is. Judging from the small, welded metal pipe, it's something that's been worked on for a while, even if it means it's going to take a while to get the pool completely full.

Said someone is pretty evidently present, even. Just a small, young fluffy thing down in the deep end, sprinkling . . . powder? On the water there.]

[There's a familiar fluffy pink thing standing down where the water's pooled into the diving well in the deep end, sprinkling something into the water there.

[Well. No. Probably the only surprising thing at all is that she's alone.

Alone and down in the pool, pants rolled up, sprinkling something . . . white? into the rising water of the diving well.]

[Then you'll see a . . . familiar? pink thing down in the empty pool, sprinkling white powder into the slowly, slowly rising water.

It'll probably take a full day to fill the whole pool, but it seems to be going well so far.]

[It's coming from a motorized pump at the far end of the pool room. The pump seems hooked up to some preexisting plumbing on one side, and a simple hose on the other—the hose dangles down into the pool, water gushing out the end.

It's not fast, and by the look of it, it'll be at least a day until the pool is full. But it's definitely a start.]
