WINTER WONDERLAND

Who: A whole bunch of snow and YOU
When: Day 104, late afternoon and probably until Day 105 at some point.
Where: 3rd Floor, Common Area
What: Because Albi wanted to be Jack Frost BECAUSE CHRISTMAS

[There will be a bit of a drop in the temperature of the third floor today. Nothing too bad until you enter the Common Area, where you will find a good percentage of it is, in fact, covered in snow. There's mounds of it all over and more than enough to play and frolic in. There's even one mound big enough to sled down. And there's an area over that that's just pure ice and there some ice skates along the edge.]

[Around the edge of of the mini winter wonderland are tables with coats and other such winter wear.]

I've never seen much difference between magic and science, myself. The difference, to me, is in the understanding of it. When it's science, we know, or at least think we know, the reasons why something happens, but what we call "magic" can just as easily have reasons within our ability to comprehend that we just haven't yet discovered.

In what I've seen of both, the difference isn't as grand as most would suggest. Though it is unfortunate when one simply accepts a thing as "magic" and doesn't continue to explore and broaden their understanding.

It is. Magic can be explained, it's just humans don't have a means to explain it yet.

Which is why that little tendency has annoyed me. Magic doesn't mean one should give up. It's just something else to discover.

Someone I care for deeply was as skilled in magic as I was in science, maybe more. With the way he explained the things he did, I never could see any difference besides the name. Labels aside, his magic was just as bound by rules as any science I've studied.

To call a thing magic is simply to root it in mysteries.

...Something like this, for instance. Your snow. It's something many would call magic, isn't it? But you're bound by rules to produce it, rules that if you follow will have the same result each time, right?

That's correct. I've figured out several processes, but each time, the specific process produces the same result as long as there's no other unexpected factors.

A scientific process that could be seen as magic.

Even the scientists of my own plane couldn't produce a snowfall like this, at will. But there were many things we had mastered there that didn't exist in other planes I visited, as well. And in a place like this, where people of many planes are brought together, there's a unique chance to combine what they've learned, whatever name it goes by, and create something new.

As much as I still hope to return to where I belong... I wouldn't mind a chance to see that happen here, first, myself.

Hopefully it won't be too long. Though I think some stability would be needed first.

Stability would certainly be welcome... but sometimes things need to move forward to bring it about, as well.

We're still only getting started, here. There's still time, and lots of young people to help move things along.

I had thought so, but...there's a lot of them, even the young, who are still very stuck in the past.

I admit I might be just as stuck as they are.




But as long as I'm here, I'm willing to help, until I can get to where I want to go.

Age does make it harder.

But an open mind can still do a lot to help.
