Who: Anyone, but a few lost, old souls in particular
When: Day 85, night to early morning (still slight forward date)

What: The Long Night continued to first light

[The bonfire still burns on the highest floor, casting its light like a beacon through the dome . . . but the floors below are darker, just as quiet, threads of that same solemnity weaving down through the stonework.

A time for old memories and the ghosts that keep them. A night of peace for the restless, and home for the homeless. Long hours for remembrance, and sorrow, and faded joys.

And a night, for some few, to wander the halls, sleepless until dawn. . . . two in particular have wandered (on slow, unsteady and altogether new legs) down to the bent-open grand doors of the first floor, looking out to the jungle and water below.]

[Shifts a bit closer to her.]

I want to be sure you're okay.

[ Leans against her, tiredly. ]

...I'm fine. There are many restrictions in this place, you don't need to go so far for me.

You're new here. And it's . . . been a really long night, and you're tired, and hungry . . .

[Curves an arm around her shoulders, petting her hair.]

I'd like . . . to help the last, if you'll let me.

[ Tilts her head into it ]

...It's too early to hunt. After night falls.

[Shakes her head, and . . . points to herself.]

You don't need to go hunting. I'm right here.

[ ...

s... tares ]

I-- one of my own, I couldn't--

I'm not . . . really one of your own. Not like this. But I know what it's like, to be hungry.

[Offers Muirin her right wrist, turning it up so Muirin can see the blue lines of veins just under that pale skin.]

And it's you, too, so I know I'll be okay.

[ She stiffens a little, because even just looking at it she can imagine the smell, the taste, the feel of warmth and coppery liquid running through her lips--

and she's so hungry, but... ]

And it's probably a little like karma, to be on the other side of this.

. . . go on. It's all right. I'll even start it, if you need me to.

[ ...this is going to be kind of awkward when I have dere momfeelings for you.

She spends a moment, clenching her teeth before reaching out to take Feathers' arm and pull it a little closer. And she leans down and gently, gently, closes her mouth over the skin, sharp fangs slicing through with relatively little pressure.

She might have been expecting the pain. What she probably wasn't expecting was the flood of pleasure that followed it. ]

[Yes that's a little . . . it wasn't ever like this before, did something happen? Is she just weird . . . ?

Her breathing's a little shaky as she pulls Muirin closer, but her hands are still and sure, the cheek shifting to rest against Muirin's shoulder just a little, tiny bit red.]

See? It's fine.

[ it's called being a mary sue mermaid i guess, do you understand why I didn't want to now...

She doesn't respond, eyes narrowed as she drinks and drinks and drinks, slowly enough that by the time Feathers begins to feel a bit dizzy she's already had her fill(for the moment, at least). And she lets go, lapping the last drops of blood from the bite wounds and pressing her fingers firmly over them to stem the flow further. ]

Lots better . . .

[It's a sleepy voice, and she closes her eyes as she leans against that shoulder, just for a moment.]

Brought bandages, 's okay . . .

[ Licks her lips but keeps hold of her wrist, quietly searching for the bandages. And when she finds it, hastily wrapping her up. ]

...Sorry.

[Shakes her head, curling her arms around Muirin's waist once that's done.]

Always . . . had to use knives. Or claws. This is better.

Can I stay?

...What?

[ Blinks at her words, but settles down, back against the kelpie's heaving sides. Gently, sleepily, the threads her fingers through the girl's hair. ]

Of course.

[Yes this is good. Cuddles shamelessly, finding a comfortable spot with the ease of long practice.]

I wasn't human, for a while. But not like you are, either. The others called it being a vampire . . .

It wasn't bad. Just . . . a bit of an accident.

[ She doesn't seem to mind, long used to being buried under children(and mates, when Tide was not occupying her bedspace, and her stupid fucking kelpie).

She makes a sleepy noise to show she's listening and to encourage her to go on. ]

I was stronger, and healed fast . . . Sunny said my eyes changed colour too. They were gold, when I was hungry, and the pupils were long as yours are.

But food didn't really smell like food anymore. Or taste like it, either. Blood did, though. There's been . . . a lot of evenings I've spent like this. Only someone else was the sleepy one. Teammates, or friends . . . there's never really been anything like 'hunting'. It was always people I knew.

...It does not sound like a bad way to be, if your friends were so willing.

It's not.

There are people . . . who can be very kind, if you let them be.

...Like?

Almost everyone I've met.

There's a few . . . there's always going to be a few that aren't. And there's some like Tempest . . . good people that are really only scary if someone they love is in trouble.

But I don't think it will be hard for you at all here, if you don't want it to be.

[ Closes her eyes. ]

... I would rather not meet with her again, if at all possible.

She and Tide . . . they're a lot alike. Really too alike, for a night like this.

This place isn't really big enough to get away from people completely, but you don't have to talk if you don't want to.
