What: A story.

[As promised, Albinia is sitting in the shrine area. The temperature might be a bit cooler there, but that's more for the snakes' discomfort than any of you.]

Did you consult with those guys before you brought us here? Why do you say they didn't want to destroy humanity in one breath and then say they'll slaughter us if we don't submit to them in the next? Do you really, honestly believe every single one of them is that terrible? Have you spoken to each one? Or have you been hiding away here this whole time and thinking about how terrible and awful they were? Why do they think we'll be completely unreasonable without even bothering to try appealing to us first? Why are they treating us like some damned apocalypse to their world when there are barely more than a hundred of us on the entire planet?

This story doesn't add up unless you expect me to believe that all of you fit those insults. If you want me to believe they can't learn or be reasoned with, then what faith should we have in you to have learned not to be careless idiots that turn a blind eye until some other psychotic asshole rises up to wipe us all out?

Find a story that makes some sense.

...we were foolish. We learned the lesson. The fact S'vx is already determined to drown all of you because of his sense of entitlement is proof they have not.

An appeal has already been made to him. He hasn't stopped.

They are fools, arrogant. They have only ever felt entitled to whatever they received.

I didn't say you lied about that. I called you a careless, reckless idiot for it and doubted your ability to prevent it from happening again.

I don't have a reason to trust you any more than I have a reason to trust S'vx. You're both terrible gods, just for different reasons.

I'm not asking for your trust.

I wanted all of you to know the truth since ignorance would only do you more harm than good at this point. I wanted you to know what the situation was.

And the truth is, we can't prevent it on our own.

I don't really believe your take on the situation either. It's pretty pathetic how biased it is. Or maybe what's pathetic is how completely fucked everything is if you really are being unbiased.

Either gods can change or they can't. Did you change? Did you learn from your mistakes when you ignored what was happening? Because if you did, then stop saying they can't.

It's not easy to change a god. Possible, but not easy.

But there's evidence they haven't. And if that couldn't show them how they were wrong, then I'm not going to deny what's obvious. They refuse to change.

I really hope you and S'vx are the only ones who thinks like this. —And don't even start trying to tell me it's definitely everyoooone and I have to listen to you or I'll be killed. That's no different than what S'vx did to me.

I'll find out for myself. Not on the word of someone who's too bitter and scared to consider the possibility that we can break through the ceiling those assholes are trying to put over us.

I'm saying doing what they want you to do will get you killed. If you are this willful and rebellious, then that's good. But to give them power will just repeat history.

It sounds like it to me. "Only rely on us or you'll pave the path to your destruction through the other guys~ We're the only ones you can depend on at all and they're all horrible monsters who will never learn because they're all horrible!"

Yes, yes. I see. And you're all completely on the side of good and not desperately wanting to hoard the power we can give you.

Not buying it. Things don't fall in such a neatly black and white way.

[turns back to her] No, you've made this whole thing about how we should only worship your side. Only pray to you and the gods here. Only deal with you and the gods here because the rest of them are terrible and unreasonable. You and your allies kept us in the dark to force us to rely on you. Don't pretend that never happened now.

Maybe I should put it more simply: I think your methods are bullshit. I think your reasoning is bullshit. I think your brilliant plan of hiding out and telling us to ignore the other gods that desperately want us the same as you is bullshit.

Why don't you take a hint and leave me alone from now on, okay?

HIDING them didn't force you to rely on us. You have to rely on us for your food, which I am trying to get around. I've been making plants that aren't poisonous for you! I've already found once process that WORKS. I've been trying to put together recipes for medicines YOU can make. It takes time, but there are attempts to make it so you can live on your own.

Hiding them just means you don't give them power. That's the only reason we kept them from you. We didn't know who'd we get. We could have gotten people who'd want to appease the threat instead of strong, willful people.

We know what they're like. We've seen them. I don't care if you don't worship us, I just don't want to watch more people die because of those....those vile beings!

Um, yes it did. You're still contradicting yourself even now. "You didn't have to rely on us, but you did have to rely on us for food which I'm admitting by saying I'm working on a way for you to not have to rely on us now."

And then it's still yet another handout graciously given to us by a god who wants all our attention on her and her side and not the other side that we've only met one of. Because, you know, they're definitely all vile horrible monsters.

Just shut up. You aren't going to change my mind.

Didn't you just say that people's minds can be changed? You're contradicting yourself. If a human's mind can't be changed, how will a god's?

You did have to rely on us. Hiding them didn't force you to rely on us. Food made you rely on us. In the end, you have to rely on someone because of food, not because of who you know exists.

And those who killed droves of what should have been their responsibility are vile creatures.

You haven't given me any reason to change it, so obviously it won't change just because you think it should. You're pretty bad at good reasons for anything, aren't you?

By the way, useless gods that ignored the problem until everyone died are pretty vile in my opinion.

Then hope you don't make the wrong choice. Because there are no words to describe the feeling, to watch everything you love die in front of you, despite your best efforts. There's very little that makes you not want to die too.

And sometimes you question why those things didn't let you.
