Wash your hands before you stick 'em in her bowl. That's how you pray to her, stick your hands in her bowl.

The goddess whose shrine is a box doesn't really show up. Leave your offering and come back later and it'll be there. You can get books and notebooks from her, and probably other stuff I don't know about.
