[So it is still raining for sure, and if anyone BOTHERS TO CHECK, they will notice that the water level of Level 2 has risen considerably...

But if you aren't bothering with that shit, levels 3 and 4 are pretty much per usual.

However, if you are one of the people working on Level 5, or maybe just enjoying a walk in the rain and mud, or maybe you just heard there was something weird found upstairs...

What you will arrive at is a very strange grove. A circle of 8 large trees that look very much like dead, twisted, dry wood. Quite an odd sight in a forest usually full of too much life. Stranger still, nothing but a bit of moss and vines are growing in the circle of the grove. The dead trees stretch high into the air, and sometimes they are hard to spot, but a few odd looking, but colorful wind chimes hang from the dry branches here, and over there, some ripe looking, swollen red fruit about the size and shape of a mango.]

[Whitish and squishy with green seeds buried inside. Smells. sort of minty]

I was imagining something more like a peach.

[finishes cutting it in half so he can look at those seeds more closely]

We'll take another whole one to bring back.

If we don't awaken something terrible by stealing this lot of forbidden fruits.

[said with his usual atheist tone, despite ... well, everything. how many fruits are left on the tree?]

[half a dozen at most, which is as much as each tree has]

[taking out a handkerchief and wrapping up the fruit bits and seeds, pocketing it, already looking up again at the tree opposite to spread out the thievery]

Don't be so superstitious, John. Now help me up over there.

I thought that was a side effect of joining the priesthood.

[moving to boost him again]

[huphup, coming back down a moment later with another fruit]

That's just your excuse for it.

The fact does remain that we live in a place with very real and potentially unpleasant deities.

[getting out a scrap of cloth to wrap the second fruit]

Gather some of the bones as well, I want to try and date them.

[starts by picking you up a new skull]

I'd suggest flowers, given that chocolates and a romantic dinner are out of the question.

[pauses]

[then gets it, rolling his eyes, going back to picking up a few more bones]

[just grins a little. being out on investigation with you has put him in a good mood.]

[not exactly a true question, just handing him a bunch of bones without waiting for an answer, already turning away]

[well this isn't the first time you've handed a bunch of bones to him, surely. he takes a step back and digs out his tablet. going to pop them back in the flat through the portal.]

Hopefully that won't startle Dr. Watson.
