What sorts of things are there?

[shakes his head] Just the odd wildlife we're able to hunt and bring back. They need to be purified by one of the gods before being eaten, otherwise it's poisonous.

We haven't figured out what plants can be used for spices yet, but there are orange mushrooms that have a good flavor... They drain people of energy if touched directly before purification though.

And magic is the only way? But, the gods must surely want something in return.

The goddess who provides us water will do it whenever we bring something to be purified, so long as we don't neglect to regularly portion an offering to her for the clean water.

What a god wants will change depending on which god you approach, but usually for something simple or material all they will require is a specific part of an animal.
