I am Diamuid Ua Duibhne, Knight of the Fianna and Lancer of the Fourth War. Here I gladly serve my Master, Cayden Hawksley.

[ Well, nothing to do for it but bow back. If they're the same, at least in part, this is someone he should at least be able to relate to a little. ]

It seems we share a name as well as a face. I am also Diarmuid of the Fianna, however I served in the Fourth War as Saber. Is your master new to you here, or was he the one who summoned you?

I took a new master here -- freely chosen and someone I could serve gladly. I have yet to find fault with my choice. [smiles slightly] We... are given some time before we must contract -- I had four days or so -- and there are those from other worlds here that may serve us as ably as the magi we are familiar with. To that note there are many of us here now... servants and former masters from our world.

From other worlds, is it? And so few days...

[ It's a cruel twist that he should have to find a new master at all -- he's not ready to place that trust in anyone in such a short time as four days. Not anymore. He's visibly troubled, but puts on a resigned, falsely content face anyway. ]

Well, I suppose any master would be an improvement. Congratulations on your good choice.

[no... that's too easy to catch. he steps forward and catches his arm]

... It is our choice here. No servant has been forced to take a master they did not want. Cayden... [shakes his head] It is different here. [glances at the others starting to arrive, his eyes narrowing] ... Certainly there is never a need to return to something so distasteful.

[ For a split second his expression is deer-in-headlights, before he clamps down on it and just sighs. ]

Given another opportunity, I won't. Still, I wasn't expecting to be keeping contracts at all.

... [nods] It... was not the end I had thought to find either, but the opportunity... I... am glad to have him.

I'm sorry if I sound disapproving. I'm glad for you. I only wish such luck wasn't a rarity.

[He glances away slightly actually kind of blushing a little.]

There... is a Kotomine Kirei here... who... summoned a Diarmuid as the Lancer for the Fifth war.

The war is distant enough. You may ask what you will.

As for this Kotomine Kirei... you like him?

[ He knows his own facial expressions well enough. ]

I'm... confused by him. [he takes a deep breath and closes his eyes briefly] Though he has told me that he killed his Lancer for the joy of it.

It seems that none of us are friends of fate. What about him affects you so?

[thanks me]

... I... knew of his familiarity with me before I was able to get him to tell me why... It was longer still until I learned of his Lancer's fate. [hesitates] And I ... do not wish to be thought of as fragile.

He calls you fragile? [ a half-hearted snort ] If we're alike, I'd disagree with that as well.

I doubt we are too dissimilar.

In that case, though I can't presume the circumstances of your experience, I wouldn't take it to heart. An intact mind is the most respectable strength one can display.

We were gathered after our deaths and brought here to help the gods of this world reclaim it from nature. The animals, plants, and even the water of this world is poisonous to us unless it has been purified by the gods. They act also as a source of supplies and conveniences. It is easiest to consider them traders.

And what do they ask in return? I'd be suspicious if they were too generous.

It depends on the deity. Most take animal parts or plants. Many deal with deeds and tasks done in their name. Some collect stories, others recipes. There is a directory which tells what they take and offer. It won't tell you the exact price for everything, but it will give you and idea of what they offer.
