Hmm. I certainly don't disagree -- I didn't mean to imply disbelief, for that matter, only that it was odd.
misterious: (Have the newspapers got wind of it)

The question of why I kept asking about various things would have been an inevitability.

It felt like a good segue.

[personal profile] grave_understandings 2012-05-27 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. Though I always consider the search for understanding valuable, personally.
misterious: (Un moment; s'il vous plait)

And with the varied-- and growing-- populace, the amount of unknown things is. . . daunting.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a deterrent, nor am I masochistic enough to say that I enjoy the challenge, but until I can personally redefine what is "possible" and "probable. . . " It might be better for me to stick to writing mystery novels.

*slight nod*

I'd advise you not to give up the attempt easily, personally. All perspective has value.
misterious: (Invariably; you end up twisting facts)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-27 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no intention of giving up, but if I don't have a good understanding of what I could possibly come across, I'm recklessly endangering myself. I won't delude myself into thinking everyone brought here is a saint; and someone with malicious intent dangerous enough with something as simple as a rock or stick in their hands. I'm sure I don't have have to tell you what they'd do with something stronger than that.

Furthermore, abilities aren't limited to what's gained prior to arriving in Thusia: It's just a hunch, but. . .

[Lets that drop, seeing if he wants elaboration on the priest system or leaving things there.]

All of these things are true, of course.

*thoughtful*

You're considering taking oaths to one of the pantheon?
misterious: (I cannot make bricks without clay.)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-27 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's way too soon for something like that. My concern is what others might do with the opportunity.

You've seen the directory. Some of their domains are. . .

[personal profile] grave_understandings 2012-05-27 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I would definitely agree.

*nods*

"Unpleasant" is a mild but accurate term. And those who would willingly take oaths to such a deity...
misterious: (Why are you always suspicious?)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-27 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Might be equally unpleasant, to borrow the term.
misterious: (Have the newspapers got wind of it)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-28 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
As I understand it, there've already been a few deaths caused by residents.
grave_understandings: (hmmm)

[personal profile] grave_understandings 2012-05-28 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I can't say I'm exactly surprised, but I am a bit curious.

There were a string of assaults and murders perpetrated by someone named Karl. The incidents sparked some interest in the potential police force. . .

[More accurately, it gathered an angry mob that wound up doing nothing.]

. . . but ultimately he wasn't stopped until he no longer existed.

I see. He obviously had some power, else he wouldn't be so effective.
misterious: (There's only one case that intrigues me)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-28 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say so, though I didn't get the specifics on that.

Either that or he chose his victims quite carefully -- but really, in an environment such as this I can't think he could do so carefully enough.
misterious: (Data; data; data...)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-28 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
A combination of factors.

Since it seemed to be the first instance of serial attacks, it's likely most of the populace had their guards down.
grave_understandings: (level)

[personal profile] grave_understandings 2012-05-28 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
And now that it's happened, their guards are raised but not directed anywhere useful.
misterious: (Go along; now. I won't be chasing you)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-28 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Even then, that caution might be isolated to the parties involved.

Newer arrivals probably aren't aware of what happened.
misterious: (When have I ever complained about you)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-28 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see what the police force plans to do about that.

Just because the first sheriff quit doesn't mean it's disbanded.
grave_understandings: (pleasant)

[personal profile] grave_understandings 2012-05-28 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
So we will. And if the initial sheriff quit so easily, it's hopefully in better hands now.
misterious: (Never theorize before you have data)

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-28 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hopefully.

The former sheriff appointed her second-in-command. She has a general understanding of how things are meant to be run, due to her father's influence.

I suppose we'll see how she handles the next crisis.
