During my life I may have well been just as much. But not here.

I didn't know that gods could die.

In my world, there was a god called Inari. We-- foxes like myself, that is-- are their servants and messengers. In fact, the foxes of Inari gained such prevalence that when making offering at a shrine of Inari, they are given to the foxes rather than the god.

We are mortal beings, despite everything. We are born simple animals. But in life... my powers could be considered on par with those of gods, to normal humans.

Inari... [Lenalee purses her lips, trying the word out.] So, you are a fox which can present itself as human-bodied?

I can shapeshift into many things besides, but yes. This is my preferred body.

[ Though, the next time Lenalee blinks, Kaori looks just like her. Looking over herself experimentally. ]

Ah... no. No, she wasn't a friend. She was a construct, a guardian deity, I guess, who could take on other people's form if she wanted to. We got along, I suppose, but I rarely ever saw her.
