Because I am dead.

You are not. Is that not the condition of this place? These gods, weak though they may be, are no more interested in dead worshipers than the ones from my homeland. You simply 'died'.

Regardless of whether or not I am considered dead here, I am dead in my home world. There is no way back for me. I must make the best of my situation here, as I said, because I doubt I will be transferred along elsewhere.

Do you not wish to return or is your will simply that weak?

You do not understand, boy. There is no way back for me. It has nothing to do with wills or wishes, it is a simple matter of what I am and how I was connected to my world.

Of which I am no longer, I may add-- severed, dangling off the edge of a sharp cliff with no hope of repair. I have lived for a long time, my child, and I know my place in the world... and when I have been taken out of it.
