What: IT'S A TRAAAAAAP and also a mingle I guess

[Yuri is sitting out by the windows in the third floor common area, making what appears to be a trap of sorts out of some wood. that's not very remarkable, though it is a very well-made trap. What's remarkable is what he's using for bait: a plate of food.

and it is the most beautiful plate of food you've ever seen. the presentation, the color of the food—it's perfect, luscious. practically art. only a mad person would give something so beautiful and tasty looking to an animal. and yet, as he tests the tension in the trap, that's apparently what he's going to do...]

[chuckles, twisting to block the thrust and knocks it away]

[mutters, but tries to take the momentum of the block for another attack]

[chuckles matching Ky's movements]

Aim for the openings. My right side is weaponless. Keep it in mind when you attack. Don't aim for the core immediately. It's too easy to defend.

That sort of strategy only works if I didn't already know you're ambidextrous.

[snark sarcasm, but keeps on practicing anyways]

You should also notice then that I haven't used my right hand yet. Pay attention to what's in front of you; not just what you think is the reality. My right hand could have been injured in a real fight.

[leaving the shrines that he's gone to visit--what is that trap even...]

[over in a slightly different area, Lancer is happily bruising the hell out of a roommate in the name of training. notably, he's only using his left arm]

[sucks then that dematerialized he can move a hell of a lot faster than you can walk huh -- rematerializing in front of Kiritsugu in a hallway, still not sure he actually wants to talk to him yet, but... not moving out of his way either]

[opens his mouth... closes it... and finally closes his eyes, voice strained]

... Tell me about the grail...

[lunges, slamming Kiritsugu into a wall with a forearm to his throat to pin him there]

Do not dare tell me what is my business. You have ruined too many lives with your decisions. I will decide if this is something I need to know, and you will tell me.

[no resistance here, especially as Lancer speaks his piece, though hands going up to grab at his arm]

[lets up on the pressure on his throat just enough to keep him pinned without cutting off his breathing]

Tell me what happened.

[taking a moment to catch his breath again]

. . . will knowing really ease your mind?

[leans into him harder]

You are not so much a fool to think that any of this would ease my mind. It is information I need to know.

[grimaces a bit at the lean before letting his expression fade into one of detachment]

I ordered... Saber to prevent the Holy Grail from descending by destroying the vessel for the Grail. Irisviel... the homunculus that the Einzberns created for that sole purpose--my wife... was no longer herself, but the Grail. The Grail itself was corrupt. My wish--any wish... would have destroyed everything. So I ordered Saber twice with my two remaining command seals to destroy the container for the Grail.

Five hundred people perished in the fire that resulted from that act.

[gestures at the shrines] That's them.

[takes a moment to swallow that whole and decide which questions to ask first]

What happened to Saber after the Grail was destroyed?

... I don't know. Sent back to the Throne of Heroes for all I am aware. You would have to ask her.
