Congratulations! You've discovered 'how it works'! I've met a lot of people who weren't exactly the same people that I was friends with in the past. It's always weird. And sometimes you become friends with the new version and sometimes you don't. Once you get to know them better it's not as weird because they're easier to tell apart, or that's my experience anyway. But since you're missing your memories it's not like you a lot to compare to begin with...
